Hank, a D.C. cat was stuck in a tree for five days after a dog spooked him sending him running up a tree, 50 feet off the ground. Hank's owner discovered him and called the Humane Rescue Alliance to help. But they couldn't reach him with a ladder and the tree's branches were too unstable to climb. Unable to get a fire truck in the yard where the tree was, they had to think outside the box.
Then the Alliance came up with "Hank's Party Pack." A treat and catnip filled box they would send up the tree using a pulley system, set up by a local business, which Hank jumped in immediately. Over the five day debacle, at least 40 people came to help out including friends, neighbors, and strangers.
The illustration below is a glimpse into Hank's story, showing him high up in the tree, with people from the community coming together to help a neighbor in need.
